Leverkusen is close to winning the title. The Werkself are also favorites in the cup final – and will soon want to concentrate even more on the Europa League.

For midfielder Granit Xhaka, the early one would have Winning the title with Bayer Leverkusen had a pleasant accompanying effect.

“The sooner we become champions, the sooner we can concentrate more on the Europa League,” said the Swiss after the 1-0 win against 1. FC Union Berlin. The Werkself are no longer satisfied with just one title. Coach Xabi Alonso’s team wants the triple.

After FC Bayern Munich’s mistake at newly promoted team 1. FC Heidenheim (2:3), Leverkusen have a 16-point lead over the long-time champions in the Bundesliga. The first championship in the club’s history is only a matter of time. With a home win against Werder Bremen next Sunday, Bayer can become champions of Munich regardless of the result. If Bayern lose against 1. FC Cologne on Saturday, Leverkusen will be uncatchable without any help of their own.

The Rhine team is the clear favorite in the cup final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The German championship title is almost certain and the Werkself, who are still unbeaten this season, are not exactly considered outsiders in the Europa League in the quarter-finals against West Ham United. “We are not unbeatable, but if we continue with the mentality of doing our work every day in the same down-to-earth way as before, anything is possible,” said Xhaka aggressively.
