Bundesliga: Leipzig makes Bayern happy – Schalke can still win – sport

RB Leipzig has cracked the best defense in the Bundesliga with a French double strike. In the last home game of the year, the Saxons won 3-1 (0-0) against SC Freiburg in a new edition of the DFB Cup final and thus completed the twelfth game in a row without defeat. Mohamed Simakan (55th) scored the redeeming lead in front of 41,240 fans on Wednesday after Leipzig had previously hit aluminum four times.

His French compatriot Christopher Nkunku followed up just over a minute later. Lukas Kübler (66th) made the connection with a dream goal before Emil Forsberg (78th) converted a foul penalty. Leipzig climbed to fifth, Freiburg, who had conceded just 13 goals, slipped to third. Already four points behind FC Bayern.

Even Union Berlin could not change anything about Bayern’s four-point lead. A few days after losing the lead in the table, Union experienced the next setback, the Berliners parted 2: 2 (2: 2) from FC Augsburg. Sheraldo Becker (7th minute) and Kevin Behrens (22nd) put the Union ahead twice in the eventful first half in front of 22,012 spectators. Florian Niederlechner answered for the guests (8th/39th). The Berliners jumped into second place in the table – past Freiburg.

Six goals in Frankfurt – home win for Schalke

Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, experienced the next great evening. Coach Oliver Glasner’s team defeated TSG Hoffenheim deservedly 4-2 (3-1) and climbed past Borussia Dortmund to a place in the Champions League. At times, the Hessians showed very impressive football, Djibril Sow (6th), Randal Kolo Muani (8th), Dina Junior Ebimbe (29th) and Jesper Lindström (56th) scored for the seventh win in the last eight competitive games. Hoffenheim, for their part, remained without a win in the fourth game in a row, the goals from Christoph Baumgartner (38th) and Ozan Kabak (46th) were not enough.

And Schalke? Can actually still win. Thanks to goalscorer Simon Terodde, S04 find new courage in the relegation battle. Coach Thomas Reis’ team deservedly won 1-0 (1-0) against FSV Mainz 05. In front of 58,256 spectators in Gelsenkirchen, Terodde scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute for the fighting and this time also playfully strong hosts.

The second division record scorer ensured the first win after seven defeats in a row in the Bundesliga and the first success under coach Reis in the third game. Schalke remains last with nine points, but is only two points behind Hertha BSC in the relegation rank. It was the third defeat in a row for Mainz, who are placed in the middle of the table.
