Lahm about FC Bayern: “There has been unrest for years”

At FC Bayern, despite the 5-1 win at Union Berlin, not enough is happening this Bundesliga season. Philipp Lahm talks about his former club, coach Tuchel and Joshua Kimmich.
“There has been unrest for years – from the management to the coach. In addition, many transfers were made that were not successful,” added Lahm. After the rejection of national coach Julian Nagelsmann, who extended his contract with the DFB, it is still unclear who will take over the Munich team in the new season.
The 40-year-old Lahm sees the lack of stability in the team as another reason for the weak season for Munich, who are only playing for the runner-up championship behind Bayer Leverkusen. A framework was never formed, “now, at the very end, it’s slowly falling into place: Neuer, de Ligt, Dier, Kimmich, Goretzka, Musiala and Kane are on the field in every important game. That’s seven players plus Sané, if He’s fit, they’re set. There hasn’t been enough work done on that. That’s not how a team can be created,” said the former Bayern captain.
Lahm praises Kimmich: “Very good attitude”
When asked whether this was a failure on Tuchel’s part, Lahm replied: “I’m not a coach. But I can say: when the roles are clearly defined, the players come together and become a team. If not, the opposite is the case “The last time I saw a Bayern team that played together, especially in defense, was against Arsenal.” After the successful quarter-final duels against the Londoners (2:2/1:0), FC Bayern will meet Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League, the first leg on April 30th will take place in Munich.
Lahm defended Joshua Kimmich, who was heavily criticized this season. He doesn’t think it’s because of the 29-year-old, who is now called up as a right-back, “he has a very good attitude and is a good player.”
It is important to have trust in the players: “A club must not allow any doubts to arise about its important players. I felt that back then, I was never doubted. That got me through phases in which things weren’t going so well. That’s what makes it happen then easier to take on a leadership role.” With the Munich team, Lahm became German champion eight times, cup winner six times and won the Champions League in 2013.
