A second division player finds the right answer to racial abuse. In Leverkusen there’s hoe, tip, 1 2 3 4 5. And Christian Streich gives Baden tuition in matters of penalty rule. Of the star-Bundesliga check.

That’s how the game day went

Matchday winners

This time the winner of the match day comes from the second division. There, Khaled Narey from Fortuna Düsseldorf was exposed to racist insults from some HSV supporters during the guest performance in Hamburg. The player then found exactly the right counterattack on Instagram. At first he was happy about the athletic point and the support of his own fans who had traveled with him. Then he thanked all the decent HSV fans who had given him a warm welcome when he returned to the ex-club. And then – finally – to address a few more appropriate words to the misguided heads in the audience: “But I wish all the ‘fans’ who racially insulted me during the game and threw beer at me a speedy recovery! #againstracism #foolish idiots“.

There was also full support from Hamburger SV. “Racism has no place in the Volksparkstadion and our society! You deserved the strong applause for the farewell before the game over your three years with us and that is what we imagined as sporting fair,” wrote the club on Narey’s Instagram -Page. In addition, the Hamburg-based company announced in a statement that it would do everything possible to clarify and punish the incidents.

Matchday losers

For the losers of the match day, it’s up to the top of German professional football. There – more precisely at the top in first place – Bayer Leverkusen, who recently played strongly, could have found themselves with a win against Bayern. But nothing came of it. The Leverkusen lost the top game for the championship lead with an embarrassing performance. Heel, top, 1 2 3 4 5 goals against after 37 minutes of play, with four goals within seven minutes – Bayern rarely manage that, even in cup games against lower-class clubs. After all: The Leverkusen fans showed their mercy and supported their hapless men with cheers after the final whistle. Just like the Cologne fans, by the way, who also celebrated their players loudly despite the clap (0: 5 in Hoffenheim). Let’s see how the mood in the Rhineland will be in a week. Then Cologne and Leverkusen meet directly.

Excitement of the game day

At the home game premiere of SC Freiburg in the newly built stadium, coach Christian Streich was right at operating temperature. After a penalty imposed on his team and one not given shortly afterwards for his own team, the 56-year-old football coach had to be prevented by his own people with physical effort from not storming indignantly onto the lawn. “If the two do not whistle, the two do not whistle. If the two do not whistle, the two must whistle”, Streich explained afterwards the correct interpretation of the Baden rules.

Streich received the yellow card for the near storm, as did Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch, who was too excited. At the press conference after the game, both coaches caused laughter again with relaxed sayings. He had hoped that it would now be “about politics or something,” said Marsch towards Streich, alluding to the famous statements of the Freiburg original on social issues.

You should see this gate (again)

In Dortmund everyone was talking about Haaland, who netted twice on the comeback. The most beautiful black and yellow goal was scored by Marco Reus. Sinking the ball in such a technically clean corner, others can only do that on the Playstation.

The picture of the day was shot by this young man who, however, entered the Dortmund lawn without permission, and was then escorted from the square by a good-humored Erling Haaland.
