The fuss about Oliver Kahn’s future at Bayern is getting bigger and bigger. The people of Munich are said to be in talks with a possible successor.

The surprising appearance of Uli Hoeneß during the training of his crisis Bayern only fueled speculation about the future of CEO Oliver Kahn.

Honorary President Hoeneß spent 15 minutes discussing things with head coach Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday before the training session, possibly sending out a signal that he is increasingly taking matters into his own hands with the record German champions. Kahn was later seen on the pitch for a few minutes, briefly observing the preparations of the Munich stars for the game against Hertha BSC on Sunday.

Rumors about Kahn and Hellmann

According to media reports, Kahn’s post is shaking more and more. After the end of the DFB Cup and the Champions League and the loss of the table lead, the management team around the former international goalkeeper has come into focus.

As the TV broadcaster Sky and the sports portal “ran.de” reported, Eintracht Frankfurt’s board spokesman Axel Hellmann is a promising candidate for Kahn’s successor. Accordingly, talks are said to have already taken place – according to dpa information, however, not specifically about a Kahn successor.

Hellmann had previously been associated with a move to the top of the German Football League, which he is currently leading on an interim basis with Oliver Leki from Freiburg. Now the 51-year-old lawyer, who still has a contract with the Hessians until 2027, is said to be the favorite of the Munich supervisory board.

Supervisory Board meets on May 22nd

It is precisely this supervisory board that will meet on May 22nd for its already eagerly awaited regular meeting. Before that, no decision can be expected in the debate about the executive floor. The outcome of the title fight in the Bundesliga should have a significant influence on the future of the Munich management level. If Bayern overtake Dortmund in the remaining five games and at least polish up the messed-up season a bit, that could also have a positive effect on the mediocre job reference of Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.

As CEO, Kahn is primarily responsible. “Something could happen at any time that you wouldn’t have thought of three to four months ago. Oliver Kahn definitely doesn’t have things under control,” Lothar Matthäus told “Sport Bild”.

Salihamidzic could benefit from the fact that Hoeneß has been one of his advocates for years. But the Bosnian is also in the light of public criticism because of his personnel policy. “In retrospect, Salihamidzic’s transfers are not as good as you thought,” said Matthäus.

Hoeneß watches the Mia-san-mia disaster with concern. This was illustrated by his surprising visit before Bayern training. “Mr. FC Bayern” is appearing more and more and this is also felt by the hitherto rather hapless coach Tuchel. Hoeneß’ word and opinion still has weight on the Isar – and the 71-year-old sits on the supervisory board, which Kahn could dismiss at any time.
