VfL Bochum and Eintracht Frankfurt are the previous draw kings in the Bundesliga. In the 1-1 (0-0) draw on Saturday, both teams recorded a point for the third time in a row. In front of 26,000 spectators in the sold-out Ruhrstadion, the guests seemed to be close to their second win of the season after Éric Dina Ebimbe’s opening goal (55th). But the Bochum team managed to get their deserved equalizer through Kevin Stöger (74’/foul penalty) in an open game at eye level. This means that Eintracht remains undefeated under the direction of coach Dino Toppmöller. At VfL, however, the wait for their first win of the season continues.

Borussia Dortmund has put its weak start to the season behind it and gained confidence for the difficult start to the Champions League. The championship runners-up won 4:2 (1:2) at SC Freiburg on matchday 4 of the Bundesliga thanks to strong final minutes and two veterans. Defender Mats Hummels (11th, 88th), Donyell Malen (60th) and substitute former captain Marco Reus (90th + 3) scored for Dortmund, who now have eight points in their account. On Tuesday, the Westphalians have to play against the French champions Paris St. Germain at the start of the premier class. Freiburg (six points) starts the Europa League on Thursday at Olympiakos Piraeus. Lucas Höler (45th+2) and Nicolas Höfler (45th+6) were successful for the Breisgau team. Substitute Vincenzo Grifo prepared both goals. Höfler, however, was sent off with a red card in the 82nd minute for serious foul play.

With merciless efficiency and a goal from more than 50 meters, TSG Hoffenheim dealt 1. FC Köln the next setback. Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team won 3-1 (2-0) and spoiled Cologne’s big party that the club wanted to celebrate to mark the 100th anniversary of its stadium in Müngersdorf. Andrej Kramaric after just 49 seconds and Florian Grillitsch (28th) with a shot from his own half into the empty goal made things clear early on. After the break, Maximilian Beier increased (52′). The FC tried hard, but overall it was too harmless despite Davie Selke’s goal (61st): after four games, coach Steffen Baumgart’s team is stuck in the bottom of the table with one point. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, can look upwards after their third win. FC lost Rasmus Carstensen (90+1) in added time with a yellow-red card.

VfL Wolfsburg – Union Berlin 2:1 (2:1), Goals: 1:0 Jonas Wind (11th), 1:1 Robin Gosens (28th), 2:1 Joakim Maehle (30th)

Third threesome for the Wolves, setback for Union: VfL Wolfsburg has given Champions League starter Union Berlin a dampener in their mood. Four days before the long-awaited premier class debut at Real Madrid, the Iron team lost 1:2 (1:2) at Lower Saxony and suffered their second league defeat in a row at their dress rehearsal. Jonas Wind with his fifth goal of the season (12th) and Joakim Maehle (30th) scored for Wolfsburg. National player Robin Gosens equalized for Berlin (28th). Overall, Union didn’t act compellingly enough, made too many mistakes at the back and hardly created any scoring chances up front. In this form, coach Urs Fischer’s team will have a difficult time on Wednesday in Madrid (6.45 p.m.). Wolfsburg, on the other hand, celebrated its third win of the season in the fourth game and is in the top third of the table.

RB Leipzig – FC Augsburg 3:0 (3:0), Goals: 1:0 Xavi Simons (6th), 2:0 Lois Openda (11th), 3:0 David Raum (27th)

RB Leipzig continued to gain momentum shortly before the start of the Champions League season. Coach Marco Rose’s team beat FC Augsburg 3-0 (3-0) thanks to a strong first half. After the third win in the fourth game, the Saxons remained on the heels of the top duo Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. Xavi Simons (6th), Lois Openda (11th) and David Raum (27th) scored for the Leipzig team, who can now start the premier class with a tailwind. The opening game against the Young Boys Bern is scheduled for Tuesday in Switzerland (6.45 p.m./Dazn). FCA, who only got into the game in the second half, still have to wait for their first win of the season.

Mainz 05 – VfB Stuttgart 1:3 (0:0), Gates: 0:1 Serhou Guirassy (56th), 1:1 Leandro Barreiro (70th), 1:2 Serhou Guirassy (84th), 1:3 Serhou Guirassy (97th)

You can rely on Serhou Guirassy: Even without the usual spectacle, VfB Stuttgart has firmly secured itself in the top group of the Bundesliga with its first away win of the season. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team won 3-1 (0-0) at FSV Mainz 05 thanks to a hat-trick from their unstoppable top scorer Guirassy (56th, 84th and 90th + 7) and moved within one point of the top teams Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich (both ten points). Guirassy became the first player in VfB history to score eight goals on the first four matchdays. At the same time, Stuttgart aggravated Mainz’s false start (one point), who, despite Leandro Barreiro’s goal (69th), have already gone nine games without a win across the season and could even slip to bottom of the table on Sunday.
