Gosens: Advised with national coach Flick before changing Union
Robin Gosens and 1. FC Union – that fits together really well, says Robin Gosens. Before leaving Milan for Berlin-Köpenick, the 29-year-old took prominent advice.
On Tuesday, the Irons announced the commitment of the left rail player from Inter Milan. VfL Wolfsburg had previously considered a commitment.
Chances of participating in the European Championship
The fact that the Berliners paid the club’s record sum of allegedly 15 million euros is Gosen’s incentive and responsibility at the same time. “Of course you hear the word record transfer. It does something to you, I’m not ice cold either and I let it drip off me. I feel ready to lead the way as a leader,” he assured. The former Italy professional could celebrate his Union debut on Sunday at the start of the Bundesliga against FSV Mainz 05.
The first move to the Bundesliga should increase his chances of participating in the European Championships with the national team next summer. “Now he can see me live in the stadium more often than was previously possible. He only encouraged me in my decision to do it here now,” reported Gosens about the communication with Flick.
The left-back is certain that the mentality of the Berlin club suits his nature very well. “In my homeland, people always say: It fits like a glove. In my case, you can use this phrase very well. The values and standards that Union stands for suit me and my career very well: everything works hard, nothing received as a gift and not taking the straight path. That fits very well with what Union has torn down here in recent years. That fits with my career path,” said Gosens.
