Will he extend it again or maybe end it? Speculation surrounding Freiburg coach Christian Streich is increasing. The 58-year-old is keeping a low profile.

Trainer Christian Streich from SC Freiburg does not want to comment on his personal future at the moment.

“Once we’ve finally spoken to each other, we’ll say it,” said the 58-year-old about his discussions with the club bosses before the Bundesliga club’s game against FC Bayern Munich. “I’m telling you, I won’t forget it,” Streich had previously said to a journalist. “As soon as it becomes clear, I will inform you immediately.”

Streich took over the Freiburg professionals during the winter break of the 2011/2012 season. Most recently he only extended his contract by one year. The last extension to date was announced in March 2023. In recent weeks there have been rumors that Streich could break up in the summer. However, there were no concrete signs that he could give up the position of head coach at SC after this season.

The question of how much strength and energy he still has is “part of the decision every year,” explained Streich. Freiburg are currently in ninth place in the Bundesliga. They are in the round of 16 of the Europa League for the second time in a row. Due to numerous personnel setbacks, the past few months have been physically and mentally challenging for the people from Breisgau – including for Streich.
