Fischer says goodbye to Union: “I’ll keep my fingers crossed”

In his own words, Urs Fischer will continue to support 1. FC Union Berlin even after he leaves football coach. “Thank you all, stay healthy. And above all: break this negative spiral,” said the 57-year-old in a video that Union posted on X. “When Union plays against Augsburg, I’ll definitely sit in front of the TV and keep my fingers crossed.”
On Wednesday, the bottom of the Bundesliga table and Fischer announced that they were ending their collaboration by mutual agreement. After five extremely successful years, the club has not won a game this season since August.
The decision still feels right to him, said Fischer. “It’s crazy what we were able to experience here. I’m grateful for that. This will be a part of my life, a part of my story.” The 57-year-old and his assistant coach Markus Hoffmann said goodbye to the club with a breakfast together on Thursday.
Hoffmann said touchedly in the video: “I would like to thank you for five and a half years, which were fantastic. That will always remain in my heart.” The decision feels right, but not good. “Good is something completely different,” said the 51-year-old Austrian.
