Fleeing fans, frustrated professionals and a thoughtful coach – the clear 0:4 against FC Bayern left a visible effect on BVB. The setback comes at an inopportune time.

Even before the end of the humiliating game, thousands of Dortmund fans fled. The show of power Bayern’s one-sided Bundesliga summit caused disillusionment in the stands – and dispelled the good mood of the past few weeks.

Similar to the black and yellow team, Edin Terzic was also well served after the 0:4 (0:2) against Munich. “It’s an extremely frustrating evening. Let’s be honest: we were the worse team in every area,” the football teacher confessed frankly.

Even Thomas Tuchel’s consoling gesture couldn’t dispel the bitterness. When the Bayern coach put his arm around his shoulder in a fatherly manner on the way to the obligatory press conference, Terzic’s expression remained petrified. “Bayern usually put in their best performance of the season, especially against us. For them, it’s a game that’s about more than just three points,” complained the 41-year-old, alluding to Borussia’s disastrous record with eleven Competitive games without a win against the record champions.

Not a duel on equal terms

This time too there was no question of the duel between equals that was announced before the game. This also prompted the professionals to say clearly: “It hurts when you go home with a pack like that,” said former Munich player Marcel Sabitzer, commenting on the defeat that resulted from the early goals conceded by Dayot Upamecano (4th) and Harry Kane ( 9.) began. National player Julian Brandt also made no secret of his disappointment: “If you want to have possession of the ball and create chances against Bayern, you need a little something in your pants and you also have to have courage.”

With the first defeat of this Bundesliga season, Borussia fell seriously behind in the title fight, now seven points behind leaders Leverkusen and five points behind Bayern. In addition, the defeat came at the wrong time. After all, there are important games coming up this week in the Champions League against Newcastle United (Tuesday) and in the championship against their neighbors VfB Stuttgart (Saturday), who have the same points. A lot will depend on whether Terzic can get his professional team back on track in the shortest possible time. A ruthless analysis should help you regain your old strength: “Today we are disappointed, tomorrow we will be honest,” announced the coach.

Despite all the frustration, Terzic is in good spirits that this defeat will not leave any lasting damage: “Two things make us confident. It wasn’t long ago that we did better. And secondly, that we as a group showed that we can too draw the right conclusions from such disappointing results and find solutions to make things better again in a short time.”
