A late goal for Dortmund in the German football classic prevents Bayern from taking first place. Xabi Alonso starts with a 4-0 win as Leverkusen coach. Bochum celebrates for the first time.

FC Bayern Munich, outnumbered, missed the leap to first place in the Bundesliga with a goal in added time in the German soccer classic against Borussia Dortmund.

In the top game of the 9th matchday, the German champions had to settle for a 2-2 (1-0) win at BVB. Anthony Modeste scored the final score in the 5th minute of injury time for Dortmund. Leon Goretzka (33rd minute) and Leroy Sané (53rd) scored the goals for Bayern in front of more than 81,000 spectators. On the Dortmund side, Youssoufa Moukoko (75′) scored to make it 1-2. Bayern’s Kingsley Coman saw yellow-red in the 90th minute.

With 16 points each, Bayern in third and Dortmund in fourth are one point behind the two Europa League starters 1. FC Union Berlin and SC Freiburg.

Perfect start for Bayer coach Alonso

Xabi Alonso had previously celebrated a dream debut as coach of Bayer Leverkusen. Just two days after his appearance, the 2010 Spanish world champions secured a resounding 4-0 (2-0) win against FC Schalke 04 with the Werkself. Bayer left the relegation zone with only their second win of the season. DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig is not really getting going under new coach Marco Rose. After all, Christopher Nkunku saved the Saxons a 1: 1 (0: 1) at FSV Mainz 05. RB is still stuck in the middle of the table.

Bottom side VfL Bochum clinched their first win of the season in a 3-0 (0-0) win over Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt, who missed out on the leap into the top group. With four points, Bochum made the connection to VfB Stuttgart (5) and Schalke (6) again. In addition, FC Augsburg and VfL Wolfsburg parted 1: 1 (0: 1).

“I trust the team. We want to play well. The start is important for us. It’s not easy after two days. We’ll give everything,” Alonso had announced on Sky TV and was not disappointed by his new team. Moussa Diaby (38th), twice Jeremie Frimpong (41st and 53rd) and Paulinho (90th) shot out the clear victory. After separating from the hapless Gerardo Seoane, Alonso only started his job at Bayer Cross on Thursday.

Rose has been in charge for a month longer. Abroad, it doesn’t really work for RB under the ex-Dortmund coach: After the defeats at Real Madrid (0: 2) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (0: 3), there was only one point in Mainz, the Nkunku secured with his late goal (80th). Mainz had taken the lead through Marcus Ingvartsen (45th).

Bochum’s coach also celebrates

Thomas Letsch was able to celebrate for the first time as the new Bochum coach. Philipp Hofmann (71st), an own goal by Evan Ndicka (87th) and Philipp Förster (90th + 1) made the victory perfect. This gives hope to the Revier-Club again after VfL started with six defeats under promotion coach Thomas Reis.

There was a lot of fighting in Augsburg: Robert Gumny prevented Wolfsburg’s second win in a row with his equalizing goal (55th). VfL took the lead through Yannick Gerhardt (27th).

SV Werder Bremen opened the ninth Bundesliga match day on Friday with a 2-1 win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
