As of: 08/27/2021 10:21 p.m.

With a home win against TSG Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund took over the top position in the Bundesliga at least overnight.

Dortmund came in a dramatic final phase to a 3-2 (0-0) victory against Hoffenheim and celebrated their second victory in the third game on Friday (27.08.2021). As a result, BVB is at the top of the table at least until Saturday. With four points, Hoffenheim initially remains in the top group.

“He’s a machine,” said Dortmund player Jude Bellingham at DAZN about Erling Haaland, who scored the winning goal in stoppage time after Hoffenheim had equalized in the 90th minute.

Controversial penalty scene in the first half

Both teams had good chances right from the start: Andrej Kramaric hit the post for Hoffenheim with a header (3rd), on the other side Giovanni Reyna failed free against goalkeeper Oliver Baumann (4th).

A little later, a scene remained controversial: Hoffenheim’s Christoph Baumgartner brought Dortmund’s captain Marco Reus down in the penalty area. Referee Felix Zwayer did not whistle, however, and the video assistant did not intervene either (26th). Both teams missed further good opportunities.

Hoffenheim equalize, but Bellingham takes the lead again

Shortly after the break, Reyna gave Dortmund the lead: Bellingham served Reyna, who shot the ball from 17 meters with his right inner instep into the lower right corner (49th). Kramaric missed a great opportunity for Hoffenheim (60th) before Baumgartner equalized. Geiger delivered a through pass, Baumgartner shot the ball from an acute angle and a good twelve meters into the lower left corner (61st).

A little later, Dortmund was back in front: after Raphael Guerreiro’s cross, the ball landed in a detour at the feet of Bellingham, who hit from 14 meters (69th).

Hoffenheim meets in the 90th, BVB in stoppage time

Hoffenheim pressed for the equalizer late, with success in the end: Munas Dabbur unexpectedly scored after a Hoffenheim corner in the final minute to equalize again (90th).

But it was only supposed to win the point: In the first minute of stoppage time, Haaland scored in the margin for the Dortmund victory after Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Baumann had already fought off two attempts by BVB.

BVB now in Leverkusen, Hoffenheim against Mainz

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday next week (September 4th, 2021) at 3:30 p.m. Dortmund then plays in Leverkusen, Hoffenheim receives Mainz 05.
