The retiring DFL managing director Axel Hellmann criticizes the lack of unity among the 36 professional clubs and calls for more unity.

“There are simply too many conflicting interests at the moment for us to be able to develop a joint strategy on how to develop the league,” said Hellmann of the German Press Agency. “I hope that in the next few months we will be able to achieve precisely this strategic direction for the league.”

For the board spokesman of Eintracht Frankfurt and Oliver Leki from SC Freiburg, the interim period as managing director of the German Football League ends. They took over the job temporarily after Donata Hopfen left at the beginning of the year. Successors are Marc Lenz and Steffen Merkel.

Hellmann: “Disagreements and conflicts”

Hellmann criticized that the “strengthening of the league’s competitive position” and the question of “how the bear’s fur is distributed” were mixed up in the discussion about the ultimately failed investor entry.

“But first of all, there are separate construction sites, and that’s the result of this inner conflict,” he said. “Now we are faced with the situation that we actually have less to distribute.” He predicted that this would only increase the “disruptions and conflicts”.

According to Hellmann, the 36 clubs in the Bundesliga will receive less money from TV marketing in the coming season than originally planned. The minus should be about 100 million euros. Hellmann also attributes this reduction to the failed investor deal. The push for a donor to join the DFL had recently missed the necessary two-thirds majority.
