Sports director Sebastian Kehl seems downright horrified after Dortmund’s desolate performance in Stuttgart. If more such achievements follow, there will be “no need to talk about goals anymore.”

Sports director Sebastian Kehl sharply criticized the Borussia Dortmund players after the 1:2 (1:1) defeat at VfB Stuttgart. BVB’s performance four days after the 2-0 win against Newcastle United in the Champions League was “brutally disappointing,” said the 43-year-old.

“We shouldn’t perform the way we performed in many, many areas and especially in the first half,” warned Kehl after the second defeat in a row in the Bundesliga. “If this happens to us more often, we won’t need to talk about goals anymore.”

Some players “completely below their level”

Borussia showed a “very, very weak performance,” said Kehl. “Very, very many players” had “played completely below their level”. BVB’s sports director praised Stuttgart’s brave and courageous performance, but stated: “The way we behaved today, both in terms of group dynamics and individually, you as Borussia Dortmund cannot perform like that.”

Deniz Undav (42nd minute) and striker Serhou Guirassy scored for VfB on his comeback with a penalty kick (83rd). Niclas Füllkrug (36th) surprisingly gave Dortmund, who had been disappointing for a long time, the lead. In the table, the runner-up is gradually losing sight of the top.
