It’s about the first title of the basketball season. The favorite is clear, but the top four won’t be a sure-fire success for him.

The cup competition is on the priority list Bayern basketball players are certainly not in the first place. Getting into the Euroleague playoffs and the German championship are of greater importance for the Munich team. And yet Bayern want to win their first title of the season in the Top Four at BMW Park at home this weekend.

“I’m definitely excited. We definitely want to defend the title,” said Bayern world champion Isaac Bonga. Last year, the Munich team won the cup in Oldenburg, at least partially saving an otherwise very disappointing season without Euroleague playoffs and the German championship.

This time Bayern are unbeaten in the league for twelve games and are on track. And making it to the playoffs is still possible in the Euroleague. A triumph in the cup would “give us an additional boost for the coming weeks,” said world champion Andreas Obst.

The Munich team will meet the Bamberg Baskets, who are struggling in the league, in the first semi-final this Saturday (2 p.m. / BR television and Dyn). In the second semi-final (5.30 p.m./Dyn) Alba Berlin and the German champions ratiopharm Ulm will play against each other. The final will then take place on Sunday (2 p.m./BR television and Dyn).

“After last season, where we didn’t win a title, we’re definitely keen to win one again,” said Alba Berlin’s world champion Johannes Thiemann, also making a claim. “And many of our newcomers haven’t won that many titles yet.”
