The protest action by unknown people at the game against RB Leipzig not only upset Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt. The police are also looking into the incident.

After the butyric acid attack in the game between 1. FC Heidenheim and RB Leipzig (1:2) in the Bundesliga Police started investigations. A spokesman for the Ulm police headquarters confirmed this to the German Press Agency.

Before the stadium gates opened, unknown persons poured liquid into the guest block. According to a Heidenheim club spokesman, the affected area had been cleaned as best as possible. Nevertheless, there was a smell of vomit during the game. Even before kick-off, several RB fans had expressed their displeasure about it on social media.

Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt strongly condemned the action. “I lack any kind of understanding,” said the 50-year-old after the game. Some people obviously lack intelligence, said Schmidt. “Everyone can have an opinion about us – including about RB Leipzig. But something like that? I’m ashamed of that. Something like that isn’t appropriate.” He also wanted to apologize for this on behalf of the club. The coach explained that he noticed the smell even through his nose. FCH board member Petra Saretz told the “Bild” newspaper that the matter would be investigated.

RB Leipzig, often called “Construct RB” by many football fans, has been viewed critically for years. There had been fan protests against the Saxons at numerous games in the past.
