Bye bye, Diaby!
It had been in the offing for some time, now he’s made it official. Bundesliga star Moussa Diaby (24) leaves Bayer Leverkusen! On Saturday evening, the Frenchman said goodbye to his fans in Germany on social networks.
Diaby posted an emotional video in which the best scenes and most beautiful goals of his four years in the Leverkusen jersey can be seen in just over a minute and a half. He wrote: “Dear Werkself fans, when I arrived here on June 14, 2019, I never thought that I would experience all these adventures with Bayer Leverkusen. 4 years later it is time to say goodbye.”
Diaby was no longer in the Bundesliga squad for the Werkself’s first preparatory game against second division side SC Paderborn on Friday. Bayer and Premier League club Aston Villa had agreed on transfer negotiations on Thursday. According to BILD information, the English will pay 55 million euros directly as a base fee, the sum can increase to 60 million euros through bonus payments. Diaby has a contract in Birmingham that runs until 2028.
Later on Saturday evening, Leverkusen also officially confirmed the move to England, tweeting: “After 4 years under the cross, Moussa Diaby is leaving the Werkself and moving to Aston Villa. Thank you for your time at Bayer 04 and all the best, Moussa!”
Diaby in the press release: “Now I want to take the next step, to start a new chapter. I will always look back happily and gratefully on my time in Leverkusen.” Overall, Diaby played 173 competitive games in the Leverkusen jersey, scoring 49 goals and contributing 48 assists.
Now Diaby is following the same path as Leon Bailey (25) two years ago. Leverkusen had also sold the Jamaican to Aston Villa for a fee of 32 million euros.
