It can take revenge if you want to please everyone. Robert Habeck is currently experiencing this the hard way. A large proportion of Germans love the debt brake. And a majority of Germans are in favor of more efforts in climate protection. So the economics minister and the entire government wanted to do both: adhere to the debt brake and at the same time let billions flow for the country’s climate transformation. The Federal Constitutional Court has now stopped this. And since then, the Economics Minister has lost all of his Robert Habeck-ness and is appearing in a new role: as the man who no longer knows what to do. And we don’t know whether the government will survive.
