According to the latest information from the federal government, climate money should be introduced by 2027 at the latest – too late, says Green Party deputy Verlinden. Climate money is an important traffic light project.

The Greens insist on the introduction of the climate money in this legislative period. “The climate money has to come. It is an important traffic light project,” said deputy parliamentary group leader Julia Verlinden to the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) must create the technical requirements in order to be able to pay out climate money. She referred to the coalition agreement. “Climate money is an important building block for a fair climate policy.” To finance this, Verlinden called for the abolition of climate-damaging subsidies, for example for company cars that consume a lot of fuel.

According to the latest information from the federal government, climate money is to be introduced by 2027 at the latest. The next federal election is in autumn 2025. The traffic light parties had actually planned the project for this electoral period. The background is the rising price of CO, which makes heating with gas and oil and refueling more expensive. To compensate, money should be put into citizens’ accounts. Given the tight budget, it is unclear whether the federal government can afford this.

Criticism also came from the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (VZBV). “The Federal Finance Minister’s announcement that climate money would only come after 2025 is unacceptable,” said VZBV boss Ramona Pop to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. The climate money must come this year.
