After the Constitutional Court’s ruling and the threat of billions in cuts to the federal budget, the Jusos want to push through the abolition of the debt brake as the new line of the Chancellor’s party at the SPD party conference. “It’s good that almost the entire SPD has now understood that the debt brake in its current form is fiscal policy nonsense,” said federal chairman Philipp Türmer South German newspaper. “We as the Jusos want to go one step further and completely remove the debt brake from the Basic Law.” A reform sought by the party leadership is not enough; other industrialized countries have shown how things could be better without a debt brake.
