Bruce Willis is forced to retire due to an illness that affects his ability to speak. His colleagues are shocked at the end of an acting era and share their sympathy.

Bruce Willis’ family has announced that he is retiring from acting at the age of 67 and effective immediately. The joint statement, which included his daughter Rumer on Instagram, said: “With Bruce’s amazing supporters, we want to share as a family that our beloved Bruce is struggling with health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia which affects his cognitive abilities.” The acting world has already responded to the sad news on social media, paying tribute to the Hollywood star’s career.

“What a wonderful career”

“He was such an incredible acting partner to me and is the most loveable, gentle and hilarious man,” wrote Sarah Paulson under Rumer Willis’ post. Actress Debi Mazar commented on the post from Willis’ ex-wife Demi Moore, who also shared the family statement with her fans: “We love Bruce so much. Sending love to him and your family. Bruce has given us so much ! What a wonderful career. May he rest and recover.” Colleague Jamie Lee Curtis wrote: “Grace and courage! All the best to you!” And Rita Wilson said: “My heart goes out to Bruce and all the family. Thank you for sharing this with us. I will keep you in our prayers.”

Bruce Willis ‘is a legend’

Chad Michael Murray emphasized in his own tweet: “Bruce Willis changed entertainment for so many of us. He is John McClain. His decades of work have brought me so much as a viewer, actor and fan: tears at the end of ‘Armageddon’. Goosebumps during ‘The 6th Sense’. A dream of heroism in ‘Die Hard’.”

In a second tweet, he added: “It’s been an honor to bond with him over the past few years. He went from someone I looked up to to someone I care about. He’s a legend. His work will live on forever through all of us he influences.” Colleague Seth Green tweeted: “I have so much love for Bruce Willis and am grateful for every character he has given us.”

An apology to Bruce Willis

Director Randall Emmett, who worked with Willis on Midnight in the Switchgrass last year, told People: “Bruce and I have worked on over 20 films. He’s a great actor and legendary action star, an incredible father and a close one Friend.” He fully supports the actor and his family “at this challenging time and admires him for his courage in the fight against this incredibly difficult disease.”

Colleague director Kevin Smith tweeted, “He loved acting and singing and this loss must be cruel for him. I feel like an asshole for my little grievances from 2010. I’m so sorry for BW and his family.” Smith had filmed with Willis for the comedy “Cop Out” and at the time complained about the difficult working relationship.
