Bronny James’ cardiac arrest likely due to ‘treatable’ congenital condition

The cardiac arrest suffered during training in late July by LeBron James’ eldest son, Bronny, is likely due to congenital heart disease, the family said in a statement Friday.

Bronny James, 18, collapsed while training with his team at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He was rushed to hospital and then remained in care for a few days. LeBron was then reassuring about the state of health of his son.

After examination, the “probable cause” of Bronny’s cardiac arrest has been identified, according to the family. “It is a (…) congenital heart deficiency which can and will be treated”.

Return to basketball “in the very near future”

“We are confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to update the media and reiterate the family’s request for privacy,” the James’s statement concluded.

Bronny is one of the biggest prospects in his age group and many are hoping to see him play with or against his father one day in the NBA. He will be able to appear in the 2024 draft.

LeBron James, who would then be 39 years old, expressed several times the wish to extend his career to cross his son in the league.
