Brokstedt knife attack: The authorities’ press conference in the live blog

Good day, dear readers,

the deadly knife attack in a regional train from Kiel to Hamburg caused consternation the day after. A 16-year-old and a 19-year-old died yesterday, Wednesday, and several other people were injured. The police arrested a 33-year-old stateless Palestinian at the Brokstedt train station in the Steinburg district of Schleswig-Holstein. According to media information, he was in custody in Hamburg until January 19. He was therefore sentenced to a prison sentence for a knife attack in January, which was not yet final.

The background to the knife attack on the train is still completely unclear. From 2 p.m. onwards, Schleswig-Holstein’s interior minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU) and Frank Matthiesen, head of the responsible head of the Itzehoe police department, want to comment on the investigation at a press conference in Kiel. We summarize the most important statements for you here.
