Britney Spears recently released a song with rapper Will.i.am. Now she has made the leap into the so-called “Billionaires Club” for the first time with streams on Spotify – with a 20-year-old hit.

It’s been seven years since that Britney Spears released her latest album. Since then she has made headlines again and again – but less through her music. But that has now changed. Because at the weekend the singer was admitted to Spotify’s “Billionaires Club”.

Her song “Toxic” from the album “In the Zone”, which was released in November 2003, reached a billion streams on the music platform – on the same day as Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero”. The 41-year-old joins other artists who have achieved this goal – including ABBA with “Dancing Queen”, Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” or Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The song was originally intended for Kylie Minogue, who declined to record the song before awarding it to Britney. According to Spotify, “Toxic” is the 449th song to reach the one billion stream mark.

So musically, Britney Spears seems to be on the mend again. Just last week, the mother of two released a song with rapper Will.i.am. Mind Your Business is her second collaboration since her 2016 solo album Glory and the end of her tutelage in 2021. Last year she teamed up with Elton John for a new remix of his 1972 classic Tiny Dancer, titled Hold Me Closer.

And a source told the Daily Mail that Spears has “several albums” of new music up her sleeve to be released once she’s done with her new memoir. Her highly anticipated autobiography, The Woman In Me, is slated to hit shelves on October 24.

After 13 years under guardianship, Spears had regained her freedom in 2021. Her father Jamie Spears has held guardianship since 2008 after the singer suffered a mental collapse due to personal and professional issues.
