A year ago, Prince Philip died a few weeks before his hundredth birthday. The British royals remember him in a touching video.

The British royal family paid tribute to the late Queen’s husband Prince Philip with a poetic tribute on the first anniversary of his death.

The royals shared a touching video on social media on Saturday, featuring images of the Prince Consort’s life, accompanied by the words of a poem by the UK’s Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, accompanied by piano music.

The poem “The Patriarchs: An Elegy” was first published by the British royal family on the day of Philip’s funeral last year. Armitage pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s (95) husband’s career in the Royal Navy. Philip’s generation is described as “husbands by duty,” “great-grandfathers by birth,” and “the last of the great unclelike magicians.”

Prince Philip died at Windsor Castle on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. He had been married to the Queen for more than 70 years. She wanted to spend the anniversary in private. She is believed to be staying at Windsor.
