No more annoying queues at the supermarket checkout. There are plenty of cameras and sensors at Tesco in Great Britain for this.
The British retail chain Tesco has opened its first supermarket in London without cash registers or payment counters. Special cameras and sensors should enable customers of the London branch, which opened on Tuesday, to simply walk with their selected goods from the store, as the company announced.
A Tesco app must be used when entering the branch. Amazon and Aldi have already started such pilot projects. In Great Britain, self-service checkouts, where customers scan their products themselves, are much more widespread than in Germany.
German retail chains are also experimenting with similar concepts. Rewe tested “Pick & Go” shopping in Cologne as early as the summer without a cash register.
