The Royal Mail is dedicating its own selection of stamps to the Spice Girls 30 years after their founding. After the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, it is the first British female band to be honored with its own brands.
The British Post Office is issuing special postage stamps about the Spice Girls – this is also intended to commemorate the founding of the girl group 30 years ago. The motifs show the musicians Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Chisholm (“Mel C”) and Melanie Brown (“Mel B”) at previous appearances.
The 15 stamps not only show joint performances by one of the most successful girl groups of all time from 1997 to 2012, but also individual motifs by the five women. Singer Geri, for example, wears her well-known dress with the “Union Jack”, the British flag, in one picture.

The band, which was formed in 1994, stormed the charts in the mid-1990s with their song “Wannabe”. The Spice Girls emerged from a casting and sang songs such as “2 Become 1”, “Spice Up Your Life” and “Viva Forever”.

“When we founded the Spice Girls, we could never have dreamed that 30 years later we would be the first female band to have an entire selection of stamps dedicated to them,” the musicians said in a statement.
For the first time, the British Post Office is honoring a female music group with such special stamps. There were previously separate stamp issues for the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, the Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden. Years later, such stamps are considered collector’s items. A set containing all 15 Spice Girls stamps costs around £20, with sales starting on January 11th.
