It is a first step: Since last week, some of the artifacts whose theft and illegal resale caused a scandal last summer and led to the resignation of director Hartwig Fischer have been on display again in the British Museum. “Rediscovering Gems” is the name of the small free show in Room 3 of the London Museum. Ten stolen and now recovered antique gems are exhibited there, along with other gemstones from the same era. A total of 357 of the more than 2,000 missing pieces are now back in the care of the curators.
