British Finance Minister
Only household on his mind: Hunt forgets a gift for his wife
Being a top politician can sometimes be more than stressful. Important private obligations can sometimes be lost sight of, as a member of the British government has now admitted.
He was too busy with his budget plans: The British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt neglected to get his wife Lucia a birthday present. “I’m afraid I didn’t buy anything for my wife. I didn’t even get her a greeting card,” the 57-year-old told broadcaster LBC on Thursday. “I feel incredibly guilty.”
Lucia Guo turned 45 on Wednesday – that day her husband presented his budget plans in parliament, which, among other things, provide for a significant reduction in social security contributions.
“But what I did: I never did that before publicly honoring her birthday in front of millions of people,” emphasized the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Right at the beginning of his hour-long speech, the conservative politician mentioned the birthday of his wife, who watched the meeting from the visitors’ gallery along with their three children – two daughters and a son.
The couple has been married since 2009. Hunt caused a stir and ridicule when, as foreign minister in 2018, he accidentally said that his wife was Japanese during a visit to China. He immediately noticed the faux pas and corrected himself.
