British Airways: No short-haul flights from Heathrow

Chaos at UK airports continues. As a result, British Airways has suspended the sale of tickets for short-haul flights from the UK’s largest airport, London Heathrow.

British Airways has suspended the sale of tickets for short-haul flights departing from London Heathrow until next Monday 8 August. Domestic flights and flights to Europe are affected. According to the airline, the measure will counteract the ongoing flight chaos. Travel to Heathrow from other airports will not be affected and can still be booked.

Since the extensive lifting of corona restrictions, airlines across Europe have been struggling with overburdening. In addition to the sharp increase in travel, there is a lack of staff, which was cut during the pandemic. In particular, there are staff shortages at the service counters and in baggage handling.

British Airways’ decision came after London’s Heathrow Airport limited the number of departing passengers to 100,000. Heathrow had also asked to cancel flights and sell fewer tickets. British Airways then canceled 10,300 flights until October.
