Bad news for British Airways customers: the airline is also cutting the number of its routes in the winter 2022/23 schedule due to staffing shortages.

British Airways will cancel 10,000 more short-haul flights from London’s Heathrow Airport by the end of March. For the winter timetable, it will reduce the number of return flights from London Heathrow to 290 daily return flights, the airline announced on . Affected passengers would be rebooked on other flights or received a refund.

The background is that London Airport has limited the number of daily passengers to 100,000 by the end of October due to a lack of skilled workers – around 4,000 fewer than previously planned for the summer season. The airport also asked the airlines to reduce new bookings.

There is currently a shortage of staff at airports across Europe. This leads to cancellations and long waiting times at check-in. British Airways said it had to cut 13 percent of its summer offering. The winter offer is therefore eight percent.
