Fifty years after her death, Brigitte Reimann suddenly had resounding success with the imperialist class enemy. The new Yorker recently pounced enthusiastically on an author who was “shaking up socialist realism”. The Sunday Times wanted to make this literary rediscovery palatable to her readers with the lurid title “Sex, the Stasi and Me” and presented Reimann as an insatiable “communist hotspur” for whom a life without “romantic entanglements” was completely unimaginable.
