Actress Nicola Coughlan has spoken out on Instagram and asked her followers to stop commenting on her appearance. More than a hundred thousand fans like this post. Other celebrities also know the problem.

The big breakthrough came with “Bridgerton”: The actress Nicola Coughlan slipped into the role of Penelope Featherington for the successful Netflix series and won so many fans. But fame also brought unpleasant sides, as the 35-year-old now reported on Instagram.

“Just one thing,” she wrote there. “If you have an opinion about my body, please don’t share it with me.” While most people are nice and don’t want to offend her, she’s only human. “It’s really hard to take the weight of thousands of opinions about my looks that are sent directly to me every day,” she wrote next to a selfie. She understands that she is on television and that people therefore have an opinion about her. “But I beg you: don’t send it to me directly.” Coughlan consequently switched off the comment function on Instagram.

Nicola Coughlan gets support

Actress Melanie Lynskey recently revealed she had to defend herself against negative comments about her weight on set. The producers had suggested she lose weight for her role in the series “Yellowjackets”. It was important to her that the main character didn’t bother with the thought of her appearance, but “is at peace with herself, is sexually active and doesn’t think or talk about this topic because I want women to see her and be able to go, ‘Wow, she looks like me and no one’s saying she’s the fat one.'” She was joined by fellow on-show cast Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress. They wrote a letter to the producers to support Lynskey.

And Nicola Coughlan also received support – in the form of likes. Over 100,000 fans liked her post about their experience with unsolicited comments about their looks.
