The second season of the film adaptation of the novel “Bridgerton” is here and once again shot to number one in the Netflix charts. The series deviates noticeably from the recipe for success of the first season. Why some fans are disappointed.

The first season of “Bridgerton” broke all records in December 2020: over 82 million viewers worldwide had watched the film adaptation of the historical romances by author Julia Quinn, the series was the most streamed show on Netflix at the time. Now the second season has been released and once again shot up to number one in the streaming charts in this country. But not all fans are satisfied, as the reactions on social networks show. One point of criticism: season two has significantly fewer sex scenes.

“Apparently #Bridgerton missed the news that we liked the first season because of the sex scenes,” one wrote a user on Twitter. In fact, the first season also made headlines because of the numerous erotic sequences. Already in the first episode you could see the bare buttocks of actor Jonathan Bailey aka Anthony Bridgerton, later the lovers Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simone Hastings (Rége-Jean Page) got down to business. Season two, on the other hand, is content with looks and flirts for almost eight episodes.

The Netflix “Bridgerton” deviates from the book template

Taking center stage this time around is Daphne’s brother Anthony and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), as well as taking place in book order, each of which explores the love life of a different Bridgerton family member in eight novels. But especially fans of Bridgerton literature are critical online. “The actors were great, but the story, the plot, the whole heart of this great tale was changed so drastically that it was almost unrecognizable. I’m beyond disappointed. Kate and Anthony deserve better.” sums it up a user together on twitter.

The tenor of the fans of the original novel: too little Kate and Anthony, too much distraction with supporting characters like the Featherington family and too many deviations from the original. Many found it particularly disappointing that the long-awaited wedding between the main lovers was ultimately not seen. “We were robbed of the #Kathony wedding,” it says, for example.

There is one small consolation, however: Simone Ashley has just confirmed that she and Jonathan Bailey will be reprising their roles in season three. Maybe the fans will get an extra portion of Kate and Anthony.
