Vaccination must now be continued continuously so that the target can be met by the end of the year and another 30 million vaccine doses can be administered by the end of January, said the major general. To this end, it must be ensured that vaccination centers and, as far as possible, medical practices remain open over the holidays and that transparency regarding the availability of vaccines is established. “Only the boosting, only increasing the vaccination protection is any chance to at least keep the omicron wave in check,” said Breuer.
Lauterbach: Four million cans of Novavax ordered
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach also expressed his satisfaction with the booster campaign. According to him, 27 million booster vaccinations have been given and an additional 25 million doses of Moderna vaccine have been procured, which will enable the next 50 million booster vaccinations.
Lauterbach urged the vaccination doctors to use the Moderna vaccine. This is “a particularly good vaccine”. Lauterbach wants to push the booster campaign at full speed between Christmas and the turn of the year. This could dramatically slow the spread of the virus.
For the period between December 24th and January 9th, doctors and pharmacists should receive the Sunday and public holiday rate of 38 euros per vaccination for one vaccination. In addition, he ordered four million doses of the newly approved vaccine from Novavax, Lauterbach said. The material will soon arrive directly from production. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder believes that Novavax has the potential to convince one or the other vaccine skeptic to vaccinate.
The chairman of the board of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), Andreas Gassen, praised the positive development of the first vaccinations. Half a million people would currently be immunized for the first time each week, one fifth of whom are children.
