Bremen scores in Leverkusen – Hradecky slips up – Sport

Bayer Leverkusen – Werder Bremen 1: 1 (0: 0), Gates: 1:0 Demirbay (57′), 1-1 Veljkovic (82′)

Bremen’s coach Ole Werner had actually warned against Leverkusen’s speed. “Very high speed” is one of Bayer 04’s strengths, which is of course true given the Werkself’s Diabys, Frimpongs and Hudson-Odois, but then it wasn’t necessarily this virtue that caused Werder problems. Despite their precarious situation in the table, Leverkusen can not only do it quickly, but also with finesse: Kerem Demirbay proved with his circle shot to make it 1-0 what you can do with a left foot – a flick somewhere between buttery and precise, top left into the cross corner groomed. Bremen didn’t play badly in this fast game, they just missed too many chances, especially in the person of Marvin Ducksch. But when everything looked like a win for Bayer, Leverkusen keeper Lukas Hradecky slapped the ball unhappily at Milos Veljkovic’s feet after a save – and it was 1-1. Far too little for Leverkusen and another unsuccessful home game, for Bremen a point won.
