If a theater puts Bertolt Brecht’s Hitler parable “The Unstoppable Rise of Arturo Ui” on the stage today, there are many pitfalls of short-winded parallelism in view of the rise of the AfD. The pathetic anti-fascist warning, the oft-used Brecht quote about the still terribly fertile womb “from which it crawled” – that may serve as self-assurance in the face of worrying election results. It contributes little to a sober analysis of the situation.
