Breakdance and Baroque Music: Countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński – Munich

He is a social media star and model. One-handed stand, spinning tops and somersaults are just as much a part of Jakub Józef Orliński’s life as baroque music. Now the young Polish countertenor is making his Munich opera debut in Handel’s “Semele” at the festival premiere in the Prinzregententheater.

Sir Peter Jonas had expressly wished for it, “Cara sposa, amante cara”. Rinaldo’s aria from Handel’s opera of the same name was to be heard at his memorial service in the Bavarian State Opera, which, due to Corona, could only take place in June 2022, more than two years after his death. Jakub Józef Orliński sang the deeply sad lament. Barbara Burgdorf, the wife of Munich’s most popular opera director, had chosen the young Polish countertenor.
