Brass music of the Munich Philharmonic plays in Aschheim – District of Munich

They play in front of rows of classical music lovers in large concert halls, sounding symphonies and blaring in operas – without their horn players, trumpeters and clarinetists, the sound of the Munich Philharmonic would be different. But many of the brass musicians once learned their artistic craft in brass bands and music associations in their hometowns. The musicians have not forgotten these roots. A few years ago this gave rise to the idea of founding a small brass band within the ensemble to go back to its beginnings. The foundation stone was laid in 2013 with the benefit CD “Ehrensache”, the recording of traditional marches under the direction of the two top conductors Zubin Mehta and Lorin Maazel for the benefit of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra Academy. Under the direction of bass clarinetist Albert Osterhammer, the brass musicians of the Philharmoniker have developed their own style, which is shaped by the traditions of the village bands. The repertoire ranges from classical overtures and various solo works to Bohemian polkas and traditional marches.

The professional musicians are now coming to their colleagues in Aschheim with their program: On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Aschheim brass band in 2021 – which, like so many special birthdays, had to be postponed due to the pandemic – the brass band of the Munich Philharmonic will present its skills on May 27, 2022 in the Feststadl Aschheim. Admission tickets are available in advance at a price of 30 euros each at the Haus der Musik (Monday 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.), the Hotel zur Post Aschheim and the Haller tailor shop in Dornach.
