The protest camp at the Tesla factory is allowed to remain for the time being, but the police do not want to accept a corresponding court decision. Meanwhile, the forest occupiers are preparing to stay for a longer period of time.

A court decision in favor of Protest camps against US car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin are causing opposition from the Brandenburg police. She has lodged a complaint against this, as Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) announced on Wednesday. The forest occupiers see the administrative court’s decision as a partial success and are preparing for a long occupation.

Police file a complaint against the court decision

The task of the assembly authority is to protect freedom of assembly, but also to ensure that no one is put in danger, said Stübgen. The police therefore filed a complaint against the decision of the Potsdam Administrative Court on Tuesday before the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court. The Ministry of the Environment, the Building Authority and the Forestry Authority would now have to justify possible dangers in detail. The court confirmed receipt of the complaint on Wednesday.

The administrative court had previously granted an urgent application by the forest occupiers against imposed conditions. This means that the protest camp can initially remain in the state forest near Tesla with several tree houses.

Forest occupiers want to build more tree houses

The forest occupiers are now preparing to stay for a long time. “Even if new requirements make it impossible for us to protest, we will stand in Tesla’s way beyond May 20th and stay here,” said a spokesman for the “Stop Tesla” initiative. As of this date, the protest camp has still been registered with the police. Among other things, the plan is to build more tree houses. The camp has become a focal point for citizens’ initiatives and environmentalists to protest against Tesla’s expansion plans, said the spokesman. “We are in exactly the right place to prevent the interests of the Tesla Group from being pushed through like that.”

Since the end of February, environmental activists have been protesting in the state forest near the Tesla factory in Grünheide near Berlin against a planned expansion of the factory site, which would also require the clearing of forest.
