The police cannot yet provide any precise information, but they assume it was an accident rather than an attack, and the truck driver may have had health problems. The truck came to a stop against a wall.
There are many eyewitnesses, a spokeswoman for the Lower Bavaria police headquarters told BR24, which is why they hope to be able to quickly reconstruct the course of the accident. A witness describes in an interview with the Passauer Neue Presse (PNP) that it was probably an evasive maneuver: From her point of view, the truck driver tried to avoid a stationary bus that he saw too late and therefore hit the group of pedestrians.
Initially, media reports said that the truck had driven into the window of a shop. However, the police could not confirm this.
