In 1992 Stefanie Hertel won the Grand Prix of Folk Music. Since then she has recorded more than 20 albums. But she is also attracted to television: now she has her first guest appearance in a series.

Stefanie Hertel once became famous with a dirndl, blonde pigtails, a happy smile and a bright voice. In 1992 she won the Grand Prix of Folk Music and became one of the new stars of reunified Germany.

Today she is 43 years old – and musically still powerful. Folk music is still a part of it, but otherwise it can also be heard with country rock pop. Hertel’s schedule is full. On September 26 (Monday) she also has a small guest appearance in the BR series “Dahoam is Dahoam”. Her role: a yodeler.

However, it was a very long time ago that she last yodelled, she recently told the German Press Agency. There is a scene in the series in which a yodeler is sought. “And I’m applying.” However, Stefanie Hertel does not play herself, but a young woman named Nadine Bierbichler. At the moment there is no time for other series appearances of this kind, she says. In addition to numerous other projects, her family band “More Then Words” with her husband Lanny Lanner and daughter Johanna is particularly close to her heart.

The new album “Today” was released in July. “It’s modern country rock pop. Lanny, my husband, produced and orchestrated all the songs, and he also writes beautiful lyrics and all the melodies.” Among other things, they were with Bonnie Tyler and with the Gypsy Kings. “And yes, these songs are fantastic! It worked great, we got the audience totally on our side every time.” That is motivation to keep going.

With her family band she fulfills a dream

The Chiemgauer with Vogtland roots describes “More than Words” as a heart project. “We only made music at home on the couch for a few years. The idea of bringing it to the stage matured bit by bit. At some point we said: ‘Let’s just try it now. We’re going to live our dream.” Now they’re glad they did it. “It feels extremely good.”

Nevertheless, there is a break in performance for “More than Words” until the new year. Daughter Johanna is still busy with her training as a confectioner, she herself with her own projects such as the touring theater “Avanti! Avanti!” and husband Lanny are back in the studio writing the songs for the third album. “So everyone has something to do for themselves. But next year we will continue with joint performances.”

With so many appointments and projects, do you still have time for vacation? “Yes, we always take time out in between, precisely because we travel a lot. Then we’re happy if we can just be at home in Chiemgau for a few days or visit Vogtland.”
