He was once Federal Minister and is now High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina: At a press conference, Christian Schmidt reacted rather undiplomatically to a question and loudly expressed his displeasure.

Christian Schmidt, who has been the High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina for a year, made no secret of his irritation during his visit to Gorazde in eastern Bosnia on Wednesday.

When he was asked by a reporter whether he was prepared to push through changes to the election law in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in early October and what he had to say about criticism of his statements about the lack of representation of the Bosnian Croats – both allegations , with which Schmidt has been confronted again and again for many weeks – he burst out:

Garbage! Complete rubbish! I’m not standing here, I care about this country. This is a city where people have lost their lives and we are not here to play political games.

“I’m up to here with these insults”

And Schmidt continues: “I’m sorry to be so clear, I’m up to here with these insults, which are completely wrong!” With a wave of his hand above his head, he made it clear where he was going.

He is completely tired of the fact that the political class in Bosnia-Herzegovina always blames each other for lack of progress instead of sitting down and talking to each other. Everyone blames everyone – that’s not how you get to Europe, Schmidt added, pointing out Bosnia-Herzegovina’s EU membership ambitions.

Outburst of anger makes waves

Schmidt’s outburst of anger caused waves on social media: Now Schmidt too has finally understood “how we are doing with this gang and where he ended up,” wrote the renowned Bosnian journalist and human rights activist Štefica Galić on Twitter.

Poor man, Schmidt has now registered where he has landed, numerous users commented laconically. Schmidt was unsuitable for the job, according to Reuf Bajrovic, a former energy minister who, at the age of 14, was able to flee with his family in April 1992 at the beginning of the siege of Sarajevo by the Bosnian Serb army and units of the Yugoslav People’s Army.

Schmidt is making false claims, tweeted Milorad Dodik, who runs political affairs in the Serb-majority Republic of Srbska. Dodik is considered a close follower of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
