Headlines about an alleged player rebellion against BVB coach Terzic caused a lot of excitement before Christmas. The allegations make ex-captain Reus angry.

The former Dortmund team captain Marco Reus has denied reports of an alleged rebellion by players against coach Edin Terzic. “No. There was no attempted coup. Neither by me nor by other players. Reading that was tough,” said the 34-year-old veteran in a Sport1 interview.

Above all, the accusation that he was the ringleader made him “very angry”: “I’ve been through a lot in my career and I’m actually not the type of person who lets negative headlines get very close to him. There’s one for me I’ve crossed the line and that’s why I don’t want to leave it like that.”

In doing so, Reus took a stand on media reports before the winter break, according to which players had complained to managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke about Terzic’s work and were said to have demanded consequences. This had forced the discussion about the football teacher after the team’s previous weak performances and the fall to fifth place. The offensive all-rounder vigorously denied having problems with Terzic: “No, not at all. That’s complete bullshit. I would describe it as a very close and good relationship. And that’s why we often speak openly with each other.”

Reus welcomed the club management’s move to hire two former BVB professionals, Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender, as Terzic’s assistants. “Nuri and Sven quickly integrated into the team, bring a breath of fresh air and can also help to sharpen our senses again. We don’t have much time left before we can get going again in Darmstadt. That’s why it’s important to get started now. But I have the feeling that we are well positioned.”
