What will Mats Hummels do after the season? The former world champion could hang up his soccer shoes.

According to information from “Bild”, Mats Hummels is toying with the end of his football career at the end of the season.

“The signs for Hummels are now pointing to a summer farewell! An end to his career currently seems to be the most likely of all options,” writes the newspaper about the Borussia Dortmund professional. However, Hummels doesn’t want to get carried away with his future decision.

The 35-year-old defender played for BVB in the Bundesliga on Sunday for the first time since mid-December. In Dortmund’s 3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, the Rio world champion scored the goal to make it 2-1. However, the 2014 world champion was in the starting line-up for the eighth time in the eighth premier class game when he reached the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over PSV Eindhoven.

However, Hummels was not nominated by national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the German national team’s upcoming international matches in France and against the Netherlands. Hummel’s contract with BVB expires in the summer. There has been speculation about his future, just like that of Marco Reus (34), for some time. “At some point it will come to the point where we will lose two people who have done a lot for Borussia Dortmund,” club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke recently said.
