Borussia Dortmund: Now it’s official – the decision has been made about Hummels

It was possibly the game-winning scene. What could Borussia Dortmund have achieved if Thomas Meunier’s tackle hadn’t gone wrong? If Mats Hummels hadn’t had to unpack the emergency brake?

All Borussia Dortmund fans asked themselves these questions after Saturday’s defeat. But nothing helped. The top game was ultimately lost 2:3. The next bitter disappointment in the Bundesliga. Three days later, Hummels’ sentence was determined.

Borussia Dortmund: Hummels suspended

The Black and Yellows had to make do without their defensive boss for around 75 minutes. He was the last man to bring Lois Openda to the ground. The decision was still controversial. First there were penalties for Leipzig and yellow for Hummels.

After an intervention by the video referee, which once again caused a dispute (read more about it here), then the surprising change: free kick, but red. Ultimately, perhaps even the worse penalty for Borussia Dortmund.

Penalty known – BVB takes a breather

On Tuesday, the DFB announced the penalty for the expulsion. For his momentous tackle, Hummels only has to pause one game! Lucky for BVB, who are currently not a bed of roses in terms of personnel, especially in defense.

Hummels is only missing for the last away game of the year against FC Augsburg. The runner-up will be a guest there next Saturday (December 16th, 3:30 p.m.). He can play again at the end of the year against FSV Mainz 05.

Borussia Dortmund: fans surprised

Many fans are surprised that the central defender is only hit with the minimum amount of a suspension. On the other hand, they are also happy that Hummels is returning to the squad as quickly as possible.

Before that, however, the 34-year-old will be available in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. Borussia Dortmund is fighting for group victory against Paris St. Germain and thus a potentially easier opponent in the round of 16.
