After being found guilty of four out of 24 charges, Boris Becker has left the courthouse in London with his son and girlfriend. He looked serious.

He looks serious, shocked, with his head partially bowed. After his guilty verdict, Boris Becker left the courthouse in his adopted home of London. As in the past few days, his son Noah and Becker’s partner, Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro, were at his side. Suitcase in hand, Becker had to walk past the waiting photographers and cameras from Southwark Crown Court to a waiting taxi. He gave no statements.

Unlike when she arrived earlier this morning, De Carvalho Monteiro was wearing sunglasses. Noah Becker also looked serious. In the London criminal trial against Boris Becker, the jury found the former German tennis star guilty of four out of 24 charges. The jury decided that the 54-year-old withheld parts of his assets from his insolvency administrator Mark Ford.

On June 21, 2017, Becker was declared bankrupt in court. It was his duty to disclose possessions. Specifically, it was about accounts and real estate as well as trophies, including the Wimbledon Cup from Becker’s first victory in the important Grand Slam tournament in 1985. Becker could face imprisonment. Judge Deborah Taylor will announce the exact sentence on April 29.

Holding the hand of his current partner Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro, Boris Becker comes to London’s Southwark Crown Court. The trial against the former tennis player began there on March 21. Becker was declared bankrupt by the London High Court of Justice in June 2017. Since then, bankruptcy proceedings have been ongoing. In this context, the three-time Wimbledon winner had to answer to various allegations in criminal proceedings. The more than 20 charges include the fact that Becker is said to have tried to withdraw money and valuables, such as trophies, and real estate from the insolvency administrator’s access. The 54-year-old denied it, but the jury found him guilty on four out of 24 counts. He now faces a prison sentence.

An important aspect of the lawsuit against the tennis legend was the fact that Becker had his finances organized by others. Looking at documents he signed, Judge Deborah Taylor said at the beginning of the trial: “He says he signed them but never read them.” The Leimener’s lawyer had argued that it was not a crime to seek advice and help from experts. The jury debated for several days.
