Bordeaux wants to install more than 9,000 m2 of solar panels on the roof of the underwater base

A “remarkable” building whose roof offers “great potential. » The city of Bordeaux announced this Monday the launch of a consultation, with a view to installing “a 9,200 m2 photovoltaic power plant on the roof of the submarine base”, in the Bassins à Flot district. This would only be a first step, the roof of the base offering a surface area of 25,000 m2 in total.

Started in 1941 by the Germans during the Second World War, this base was inaugurated on May 13, 1943, for the maintenance and repair of submarines. It remained operational for a little less than two years, until the liberation of Bordeaux in August 1944. It then had different functions. Today, it hosts private exhibitions by Culturespaces.

Achieve 41% energy autonomy on public assets

The city will offer an AOT (temporary occupation authorization) for the installation, operation and maintenance of one or more photovoltaic power plants, the duration of which cannot exceed 30 years. The economic model envisaged is that of “the resale of the energy produced to energy suppliers. »

The city has the ambition to achieve within two years, “41% energy autonomy on its public assets, thanks to plans for sobriety and energy renovation of its public facilities. » The municipality plans to “install 60,000 m² of photovoltaic panels by 2026.”
