There was enough vaccine for everyone – with these words, Health Minister Spahn had advertised booster vaccinations against the corona virus. Medical representatives are angry: The minister is raising false expectations.

Medical representatives have criticized the statement by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn about a Corona booster vaccination for everyone. The CDU politician had in yesterday rbb First of all, the risk groups are named for which such a booster vaccination is particularly recommended. He then said there was enough vaccine so that anyone who wanted could get a so-called booster vaccination.

“We are annoyed that Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn is fueling expectations that booster vaccinations are possible for everyone,” said the board member of the General Practitioners Association, Armin Beck, the editorial network Germany (RND). “The general practitioners follow the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission, which currently recommends third vaccinations only for people over 70 and a few other groups.”

As a result of Spahn’s statements, the need for clarification and discussion in the practices is now greater, said Beck. If the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) expanded its recommendation, the general practitioners would also vaccinate these groups of people, he announced. However, some medical practices have already withdrawn from vaccinations and no longer offer them.

“Insufficient scientific evidence”

Medical president Klaus Reinhardt also criticized Spahn’s call for booster vaccinations for everyone. “There is so far insufficient scientific evidence for the need for booster vaccinations for people of all ages,” he told the RND. In older people, on the other hand, the booster vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of infection, as the immune response is often weaker in old age and vaccination breakthroughs can therefore occur. “That is why the Standing Vaccination Commission recommends a Covid-19 booster vaccination for all people over 70 years of age.”

Reinhardt accused the politicians of a lack of education and information policy. “It would now actually be the task of the Federal Center for Health Education to inform about the booster vaccination for the elderly and to clear up the false information in the social networks,” he said. “This fake news is largely responsible for the fact that we have a pandemic of the unvaccinated today.”
