Book trade – new boss for Thalia – economy

Change at the bookstore chain Thalia: The company’s longtime boss, Michael Busch, wants to retire from day-to-day business on June 1st. The successor will be the previous sales manager Ingo Kretzschmar, 42, as the company announced. Busch has managed Thalia since 1994, until 2012 within Douglas Holding. In the meantime, Thalia belonged to the investor Advent, since 2016 to a family consortium around publisher Manuel Herder. Busch, 58, bought in as a shareholder. In the competition against the Amazon group, the economist was able to gain market share with other booksellers in 2013 via its own e-reader. Most recently, he drew attention to himself with a sales platform for the industry. With more than 330 stores and a recent turnover of 1.1 billion euros, Thalia is the market leader in Germany.
